 Kayaking is an
excellent way to observe the unique microcosm of mangrove forests at close
quarters. A mangrove is a unique plant community which is found
between the sea and land in areas with a tide. Mangroves provide a
protected nursery area for fishes, crustaceans and shellfish and in
addition, many animals find shelter in the roots and branches and it
is also a perfect area for nesting. Consequently, the mangrove is
home to many species of birds and wildlife which can be observed as you
glide past in your kayak.
There are mangroves at the mouth of the estuary
behind the resort which can be easily explored. The resort has
qualified guides which can lead a tour pointing out the different wildlife
that may be encountered and with a visit to a local fishermen's
village. Alternatively, guests can head off under their own steam
with a map to guide them and a pair of binoculars. Either way,
you can be sure to have a great experience. Kayaks are also available on
Koh Kradan.
